  • Math a thon

    Dear Parents,                                                                                April 26, 2016

The Wellsville Elementary School has begun its 2016 Math-A-Thon to benefit St. Jude Children's Research
Hospital.  Math-A-Thon, now in its 37th year, is an educationally based fund-raising program in which students obtain sponsors for the number of math problems completed in special workbooks or online provided for students in grades Pre-K through 5.

The students who volunteer to participate in the program learn to do more than just math problems; they also learn the importance of helping children who are less fortunate than themselves. Through the Math-A-Thon, they are able to help provide a future for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Children with more than 200 forms of cancer and other catastrophic diseases find hope at St. Jude. Since its founding in 1952 by the late entertainer, Danny Thomas, the survival rates for most forms of pediatric cancer have risen dramatically. In fact, today more than 70% of all children with cancer will survive their bout with the disease. St. Jude fully credits these successes in treatment to the generous support of people around the world, including the students at Wellsville Elementary School.

With our help, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will be able to create new treatments that may one day lead to a cure for many forms of cancer that will benefit the children of our state, our country, and around the world. Together we can make a difference in the lives of children with cancer!

Here are the important dates for our Math-A-Thon:

    • April 26th - 29th: Students get permission from parents and return permission slip.
    • May 2nd - Students begin their Funbooks (or complete them online) and obtain pledges
    • After Funbooks or CD’s Completed: Students begin collecting their pledge money.
    • Friday, May 13th: All Math-A-Thon collection envelopes are due for prize order.

    TIPS:

    • All checks should be made payable to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
    • Students may create their own Math-A-Thon Web site to collect money with their parents permission and help. It is very easy to set up.  Just click on the Math-A-Thon Logo at the top of our elementary homepage to get started.  This site makes it easy to collect money from friends and relatives that you can’t visit.

Please call 585-596-2122 with any questions.  Together we can make a difference!

    Sincerely,

    Miss Sprague
    Event Coordinator

Tribute to Jason Dunham

Responses to Jason Dunham's 21 Balloon Salute

This balloon traveled about 400 miles:

To: Mrs. Green & the 4th grade Class of Wellsville Elementary. I just wanted you to know your balloon landed in Plainfield, NH. It landed in the field next to my house. I found it last week but was away and didn’t get to respond back, so Thank You for your tribute to our veterans. Without those whose serve & defend our country & freedoms the USA would not be as it is today FREE.
