ORIGINAL FOURTH GRADE FOLKTALES! |

Long, long ago when animals could talk there was a giraffe and he thought he was so cool with his spots. One day a cheetah came along and said to the giraffe, "How did you get those spots?" The giraffe said, "From my magic mud hole." The cheetah thought to himself, "Maybe if I rolled in the mud hole I would get spots too." "Hey Giraffe," said the cheetah, "Maybe I could roll in your magic mud hole because I really want spots." The giraffe thought to himself, "Should I let him roll in my mud hole or shouldn't I?" The giraffe said to the cheetah, "OK, but just for a minute." So they went to the magic mud hole and the cheetah rolled in. When he got out he had spots. He was so happy. When the cheetah got home he took a bath. When He got out his spots were still there. Then the cheetah and the giraffe were friends from then on. DON'T THINK MAGIC WON'T WORK BECAUSE IT MIGHT!"

Once upon a time in the summer of 1949 at the Buffalo Zoo a zebra was sleeping. He was all white with no stripes. He had a dream that all the animals were laughing at him because he was just plain white. That morning the zebra woke up and he was very nervous. He would not go to his training session because when he walked by the other animals with stripes and spots they might laugh and pick on him. He walked by a hyena who was painting a fence. He said to the hyena, "Hey, slop some of that black paint on me!" Hyena said, "OK!" She threw the bucket of paint at zebra. Zebra went home and took a shower and some of the wet paint came off. But stripes of paint would not come off. He said, "Yes, I always wished for stripes! Now nobody will pick on me." He went back out very proud of himself and walked past all of the animals. They all said, "Oh where did you get those stripes? We liked you just the way you were." From that day on, zebras always had stripes. That's why ANIMALS SHOULD ALWAYS STAY THE WAY THEY ARE!"

Long ago animals could talk and jellyfish played with people. They went swimming with the people. The jellyfish liked the people. The jellyfish played with the people everyday. The people thought every animal in the sea was nice. Then the jellyfish followed a bad group of stingrays. The stingrays taught the jellyfish to be bad. They taught the jellyfish to sting the amimals that were in the sea. One day the people were swimming in the water and the jellyfish stung the people. From that day on jellyfish always stung people. The lesson is: NEVER FOLLOW A CROWD THAT'S BAD!
